Easter Sunday: The Tomb Was Empty

Can you remember a time in your life when you had a big win or were excited about something? It could be that you won a big game as a kid or got 100% on a test you worked hard on. It could be something with your job where you finished a challenging project or got a big promotion. Or maybe it was when your spouse asked for your hand in marriage or when she said yes to you. For me, it was the birth of both of my boys. When I saw them come into this world, I was overcome with joy, relief, excitement, and, if I’m honest, a little bit of fear.

But nothing in this world should compare to this morning - Easter morning - when the tomb was empty.

READ: Matthew 28:1-7

This text talks about the triumphal moment when the stone was rolled away, and the tomb was empty. How amazing would it have been if we could have stood with Mary and Mary Magdalene and come face to face with the angel of the Lord when he delivered the good news that Jesus was not there anymore? The words in verse 6 are words to cling to daily: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”

Jesus is a man of His word. You should wake up every day knowing that the grave could not hold Him, and He is the same God working for His children daily.

As you celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, know that no matter what comes at you, you have a heavenly Father you can trust, rely on, and lean on when the struggles of the world come at you. Let today be a day of celebration!

Scripture of Prayer and Meditation:

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 reminds us not to give in to doubt but to remember that Jesus had overcome death. When you feel overwhelmed with life, read these words and live in the excitement and victory that Jesus has overcome.

55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain
